It took just two years and four months for the Palace to be re-opened following a full re-build on the site of the exisiting hostel.

There was considerable consultation with the community and the victims’ families before agreeing on what would be a stunning memorial to the Palace 15.

But getting to that highly emotional unveiling was far more complex than Council had first imagined.

In Episode 18 of Childers – The Full Story podcast we hear from Sam di Mauro, the man who created the incredible glass memorial wall and award-winning portrait artist Jo Palaitis who painted the stunning mural which depicts the victims working in the field.

You’ll also hear about the very moving behind the scenes viewing afforded to the families prior to the public unveiling and the festivities which followed as they were remembered in style.
